Both Lanes of Vehicle Traffic on Ship Channel Bridge Now Open

Toronto (October 19, 2021) – Both lanes of vehicle traffic on the Ship Channel Bridge are now open following the successful completion of roadway repairs. Remaining structural repairs, scheduled to be completed by October 29, will take place below the bridge deck and will not impact vehicle, cyclist or pedestrian access.

These structural repairs are a necessary first step of the major rehabilitation program that PortsToronto, in partnership with the City of Toronto, will undertake from 2022-2025. The program will commence next year to modernize the ageing Ship Channel Bridge, a vital piece of infrastructure supporting Toronto’s supply chain. PortsToronto expects that the restoration of the Ship Channel Lift Bridge will occur over a four-year period in order to ensure the continued safe transportation of cargo and goods across the bridge while maintaining marine, vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic along the various rights of way serviced by the bridge.
